Client: Warren County School District
Location: Russell, PA
Type: Renovations
Project Size: 123,000 SF
Renovating and expanding a 160,000 SF, 1928 English-Medieval building with multiple previous additions was an educational opportunity and architectural challenge.

The historic exterior was maintained while completely renovating the interior spaces, keeping the original period details for a unique aesthetic. The remaining interior areas were renovated to create new dining facilities and upgrade the auditorium and gymnasium. The classrooms are now technology-rich, organized into teaching pods; and existing corridors were renovated.

A new entrance was created on the east side of the building, adjacent to the auditorium, to accommodate bus drop-off, handicapped accessibility, and secured access during the school day. The building’s infrastructure was replaced and sustainable geothermal wells are now used for heating and limited cooling. Additional sustainable features include rainwater harvesting for urinals and water closets, solar-activated lavatories, and lobby displays that monitor water storage and usage.
