Among the region’s largest construction firms, Rycon Construction has been experiencing double-digit growth in recent years, landing among the Pittsburgh 100. Rycon therefore turned to WTW when planning to move from their previous WTW-designed headquarters to 2501 Smallman Street.
Rycon asked that the new headquarters have a contemporary feel but also reflect its roots in this industrial section of the city. The interior was also planned to showcase the multiple construction materials and techniques employed by its craftsmen. Among the specialties provided is a custom curving wood wall along the stair and computer cut wood ceilings accentuating the lobby and board room.
With the need for two floors of office space, a monumental stair was planned along with the base building construction. This custom-designed stair connects directly from the reception area to the multipurpose room and exterior balcony on the second floor.
