Memorial Union, University of North Dakota

With the goal to create a new student life experience for the next-generation of students, the University of North Dakota envisioned a new Memorial Union. The 155,000 gsf facility is located within the historic district of campus and serves as the new ‘front door’ to the university. The contextual design features a traditional building form with and a signature tower element, prominent for visitors arriving on campus from University Avenue.

The interactive planning process was driven by students and included a successful campus-wide referendum that provided funding for the project. Top priorities included new meeting/dining facilities, expanded space for Student Government, collaboration areas, study pods, and a Starbucks Café.

The project was designed in association with JLG Architects.
