Eiche Library Renovation, The Pennsylvania State University, Altoona
This aging library was to be upgraded and expanded to provide an adjacent Learning Resources Center. The design provided a fresher and more contemporary look, expanded stack areas, expanded office and support areas. Upgraded entries created a more prominent and welcoming appearance.
The existing circulation desk was replaced with a smaller but more efficient unit. A secondary circulation desk was added at the new First Floor area. The stacks were reoriented to maximize views of the lake to the north. Reading areas were better integrated with the stacks and provided with data outlets.
Finish work included replacement of carpet, new acoustic ceilings, and repainting of all walls. Suspended direct/indirect light fixtures and special area lighting and decorative lighting replaced outdated existing lighting.
