Deike Building – Earth & Mineral Sciences Library, The Pennsylvania State University

Group collaboration rooms, a group workstation area, a general classroom that doubles as a computer lab, circulation desk, perimeter lounge areas and a new library staff office suite have totally transformed and re-energized this aging library.

Working with the general contractor and library staff, WTW developed a phasing strategy that permitted interior renovations to proceed while the library remained operational. Additional classroom, innovative collaboration suite and additional group study rooms will be added once displaced departments move from the
current swing space.

Budgetary constraints were accommodated by strategic reuse of existing floor and ceiling finishes, as well recently replaced direct/indirect light fixtures. WTW worked closely with library staff in coordinating a stack reduction strategy that permitted maximizing the area for new collaborative spaces.
