Student Union, Towson University
The project vision for Towson University was to transform its outdated 1970s student union into a ‘next generation’ Student Life Center while maintaining ongoing operations.
Phasing was one of the keys to the success of this project. The first phase of expansion was designed to provide flexible new dining and meeting spaces that would come online well before the existing operations were shut down for extensive renovations in phase two.
At completion, the entire facility will total 250,000 gsf and include new dining and retail operations, expanded meeting facilities, a new ballroom, a 300-person theater, and expanded offices for organizations, Student Activities, and Student Affairs.
The exterior was fully transformed to present a bold new landmark for the campus with increased transparency, vibrancy, and inviting architectural form. WTW partnered with Design Collective Inc. on this dynamic student life project.
