Private Residence
Designed to be reminiscent of a prairie-style home, this organic design presents a unified aesthetic inside and out, with strong relationship to the site. Supported by Maryland Ledge Rock, the low pitched roof with broad overhangs provides passive solar protection and a horizontal emphasis.
moreGenerous glazing opens the interiors to the landscape while narrow windows tucked under the eaves provide light and privacy for the bedrooms. The natural stone and wood elements extend from the exterior throughout the interior. The scale of two large spaces, a fitness center and automobile restoration garage, is mitigated by strategic placement within the site contours.
Rainwater is collected in an underground storage tank and reused for lawn and plant irrigation. Other sustainable features include: a geothermal heating and cooling system; all energy-star equipment; and, low voltage controlled lighting.
